This hammer has a wide array of uses in general carpentry. It's octagonal shape of the head allows for side striking in confined spaces, and the flat cheeks of the head can glide over a supporting surface to ensure that the striking face is exactly at a right angle.
The wooden wedge and steel wedge are driven in a crisscross pattern to create a solid structure that ensures that the head does not become loose.
One striking face is flat, while the other is slightly convex. The flat face is for general knocking and driving, while the convex face is for precision tapping to minimise the risk of damaging the surrounding wooden surface.
