Maintenance & Care

  • Wipe aways spills immediately to prevent staining porous wood surfaces.
  • Do not use a soaking wet cloth to wipe, use a slightly damp cloth without chemical cleaners followed by a dry cloth to absorb excess moisture.
  • Dust regularly with soft lint free cloth.
  • Avoid placing hot objects directly onto surfaces, use coasters or trivet mats as protection.
  • Direct sunlight can cause UV damage to wood surfaces. To avoid discolouration or bleaching from UV rays, use curtains if furniture is within the path of natural light.
  • Avoid placing furniture in overly humid areas with alot of moisture. This will result in warping to occur in wood products. Relative humidity of 55% is a good range to aim for.
  • Avoid placing your furniture near heat sources and/or air-conditioning units to prevent cracks caused by extreme changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Denting, caused by extreme pen pressure when writing, can also damage. Use desk pads or other protection where paperwork is regularly done.
  • Do not place potted plants on a wood surface, unless it’s in a water-tight container or on a drip tray.
  • Objects should be lifted instead of dragging across the surface.

For removal of marks and minor stains, we recommend utilizing 180 grit sandpaper to gently sand the surface. To ensure optimal results, it is advisable to sand along the grain of the timber, as this helps prevent any cross-grain scratches from occurring.

Plywood laminated with high pressure laminate(HPL). The laminated surface is best cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Gentle solvents and cleaning products can also be used for stubborn stains on the laminated surface.

Surfaces finished with Osmo or Rubio are naturally resistant to water and dirt, but they still require ongoing maintenance depending on usage. For regular cleaning, we suggest using Osmo Spray Cleaner or Rubio Monocoat Universal Soap. These solutions are biodegradable, gentle on skin, and free from dyes, solvents, and emissions. Avoid using regular household or harsh chemical detergents, as they can break down the surface over time.

If the furniture becomes faded or dull due to prolonged use or incorrect maintenance, it may require rejuvenation. In such cases, Osmo's Liquid Wax Cleaner Spray or Rubio Monocoat Universal Maintenance Oil is typically sufficient. Apply a thin, even coat over the entire area, buffing the excess to restore the timber's appearance. Stubborn stains can be removed using a fine white Scotchbrite abrasive pad or fine grade steel wool, followed by a thin coat of wax spray or maintenance oil. For scratched or heavily worn areas, sanding is necessary to remove the scratches, and a new coat of Osmo Polyx Oil or Rubio Oil Plus 2C will be needed. We recommend professional assistance for this level of maintenance.
