The marking gauge allows for accurate scribing of parallel lines. Japanese marking gauges use a blade instead of a point, as a blade cuts wood fibers cleanly. As with other Japanese tools, the gauge marks with a pulling stroke.

It is lightweight, easy to handle, and made with eco-friendly bamboo. The gauge depth can be easily adjusted by moving the body along the metric-scale ruler rod and tightening the locking screw.

For added safety, the blade is stored in the body when not in use.
